At Home
Recycle. If you don’t already recycle, you could start small with plastic bags and bottles and drop them off at your local Walmart. Some more rural parts of Peoria don’t get curb side recycling pick up, but you can drop it off at the following locations!
Thrifty shopping. Go check out our local Goodwill’s for used clothing! There are so many in the Peoria area including the South Side Mission, Moxie’s, Plato’s Closet, and Clothes Mentor.
Daily Lifestyle Changes. Using stainless steel or reusable water bottles instead of plastic bottles, turning off lights when not in the room, lowering thermostat at night, and using biodegradable household products are all easy changes to make to be more earth friendly.
Start a Compost Bin. Turn food scraps into a beautiful yard, garden, or flowers! This article has some good tips to get started.

Preschool age. Luthy Botanical Gardens is hosting a nature-themed event on 4/26/23 at 10am. Children will learn about flowers and create an art project. Must register!
School age. Forest Park Nature Center is hosting a nature-themed event on 4/28/23 at 10am. Must register!
Earthworm race and story time at Peoria Public Library North Branch on 4/22/23 at 3pm.
The whole family. Arbor Day tree planting occurring at Donovan Park on 4/27/23 at 1pm.
Guided hike at Forest Park Nature Center on 4/29/23 at 10am. Learn about the plant ecology of our area. Stroller and wheelchair friendly. No need to register; $3 entry.
30th Clean Water Celebration at the Peoria Civic Center on 4/24/22 from 9am-2pm. Several learning sessions, presentations, and exhibits! Cost is free.
