Healthy Hair Resolutions for a Happier You in 2023
We all make New Year’s resolutions but not all of us follow through. Often it’s because our resolutions are big goals with big commitments. However, one resolution you can make that doesn’t take a lot out of your schedule is making sure your hair is healthier and more manageable in 2023. You may have noticed that your hair isn’t as vibrant, soft, and manageable as usual – here are some tips to improve your hair with attainable goals.
A healthy diet leads to healthy hair. When you feed your body healthy snacks and well-balanced meals, it can improve the health of your hair. When your body has a deficiency in protein, iron, or other key elements, it has a huge impact on both your hair and skin. Your body is made to “steal” those nutrients from less essential parts of your body – like your hair, skin, and nails – and redistribute them to your vital organs. Good food leads to shinier, softer, more manageable hair. **One more note about a healthy diet – stay hydrated! Winter air sucks the moisture out of your skin and hair so drink a lot to keep your hair healthy and moisturized.
Embrace natural. When it’s possible, choose a day to wash, condition, and air-dry your hair – and put away the blow dryer, flat iron, curling wand, and hairstyling products. When you do go ‘au natural’, allow your hair to just be loose without putting it in a tight pony or bun which can pull at your hair and cause breakage.
Leave it alone. Along the same lines as letting it go natural, harsh brushing, excessive combing, and pulling at your hair will weaken and damage your hair which can lead to thinning hair or even hair loss.
Deep condition often. Practicing a good hair routine both at home and at the salon is important. During the harsh winter air, set aside the time at least once a week for a deep conditioning treatment to add extra hydration to your hair. When you’re in the salon, ask your Five Senses stylist about our Botanical Therapy Express Treatment which can easily be added to any salon service and improves the condition of your hair in just 5 minutes.
Regular salon visits. Talking about salon visits, seeing your stylist at least every four to six weeks to trim your hair will keep your split ends in check and will help to prevent breakage, which in turn, will make your hair thicker and longer.
Alter your hair care products based on the season. Certain hair care products are better suited for specific seasons. If you’ve been using the same products for years, you’ve been doing your hair a disservice. During the coldest months, use products that focus on hydrating your hair. Warmer months are for lighter-weight haircare products that are formulated to not weigh your hair down. At Five Senses, we love to make sure our clients are using the right product for their hair type!
