Winter Skin Care
When the weather changes, so does your skin. You may have already noticed it is more oily, dry, acne-prone, or dull. Here is what you can do when the temps drop and your skin shows signs of suffering.
See an Esthetician
When the temperatures drop, the top layer of your skin loses its oil which is holds in moisture. This leads to dry, flaky skin and sometimes Eczema or Psoriasis. You can prevent those conditions from happening by seeking advice from your esthetician. They can determine your skin type and give you great tips of how to take care of your skin during the colder months. Winding down to get a facial to treat your skin or even just going to get a skin consultation would the first step to better skin.
Facials at Five Senses Spa, Salon and Barbershop start at $70 and Skin Consultations are complimentary.
Moisturize
We hear all the time how important it is to moisturize our skin. This winter, try refraining from taking long hot baths and find an alternative to warm yourself up with. More than ten minutes in hot water can strip the natural oils from your skin which are good natural moisturizers we have. After bathing, moisturizing while still damp will help to seal in the moisture. Oil based lotions are best for dry skin, so look for products with the word “crème” or “ointment” in them as they tend to have oils and other effective ingredients in them to seal in moisture!
Stay Hydrated
Stay hydrated on the inside and out by drinking enough water and even by eating foods that contain omega-3 or omega-6 fatty acids, such as fish oil and flaxseed oil!
